If I Could Have One Moment

I recently saw a musical performance that was recorded to video in a restaurant with a small group of people in the background. The video had been seen by several thousand people. The artist was in a low budget movie called The Last Avatar. Her name is Adey. It was a great and soulful performance full of feeling and personality. The kind of thing that you don't often see on MTV or VH1, etc. This is a great musical talent so I of course was curious and looked to see if she is continuing to perform or has even "progressed" to larger venues, higher selling albums, etc. And what I found was that this was not the case. It looks like she does still perform regionally in California. I was a little surprised at first and disappointed because she is such a great talent and she deserves to be known by a larger number of people. I guess she doesn't fit the mold of the manufactured music industry.......I'm sure you know what I mean.

After thinking about it for a while I realized that despite the fact that there doesn't seem to have been success on a larger scale (which may be intentional), that this person was able to create a beautiful moment for herself and the people that have seen and heard this song (which is titled Daybreak), which in itself is a great accomplishment. It reminds me that those types of moments don't happen that often in life, and despite any lack of financial success, or fame, or notoriety on a large scale, that just creating and sharing something that beautiful and sincere is something to be aspire to and cherish. It reminds me that success can be entirely independent of money, stature, and material progress. That in fact the MOST important things have nothing to do with any of that. To put yourself out there with just a piano and release something of that quality out into the world with that type of emotion and feeling leaves you vulnerable, and it's one of the most courageous things I've seen in a while.

So with this is mind, I challenge you to work even a little bit today on a passion, or toward something that you have wanted to do but maybe didn't think that you could because you're not good enough, or don't have the right skills for, or don't think people will accept you in this new role, etc. It's not about success, it's about experiencing those things that bring you joy. And if you spend enough time on whatever your thing is, success will come.
